Crosscutting Themes

Main content start

The Aqueous Battery Consortium's principal investigators have also identified three topics that cut across the project's six aims. To achieve the six key fundamental aims, the project's team of scientists with diverse expertise are also organized into three crosscutting topic teams.

Crosscut 1: Materials design and synthesis

Develop substrates, scaffolds, surface coatings, and stable electrolytes for aqueous batteries with atomistic control of electrodeposited metals, oxides, and related phases.

Crosscut 2: Theory and simulation

Gain a fundamental understanding of the complex electrochemical processes from electrolytes, electrochemical interfaces and interphases to electrodes growth and cell performance.

Crosscut 3: Operando characterization techniques

Develop a holistic understanding of aqueous battery processes through operando characterization that spans significant time and length scales.
